Nazareth – Early yesterday morning, Israeli troops raided the offices of several Palestinian civil society organizations in the West Bank. These organizations were human rights defenders and independent media outlets that operate legally inside Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The Arab Association for Human Rights (HRA) condemns the abuse of Palestinian civil society organizations by the Israeli occupation forces this week. The HRA demands the return of all confiscated property, including the archives and computers of those organizations. It is the right of these civil society organizations in Israel and in the OPT to operate freely, especially those organizations defending human rights.
The HRA emphasizes that this attack will not deter these association from continuing their efforts to expose Israeli violations of human rights in local and international forums, and to do their duty in defending the Palestinian people under occupation.
The right of association and the right to organize free from arbitrary interference are fundamental human rights. They form the basis of the obligation of all states; Israel therefore bears the responsibility of its military occupation and all the consequences of this blatant violation of human rights.
